PDUK Polymer Clay Collections
Polymer clay is a marvel of modern technology and craftmanship. First created to try and mimic Bakelite, in the 1930s, the inventors created something so versatile that it can be used in many different disciplines, from jewellery making to interior decoration items. This material is in essence a plastic clay, so its uses are endless.
The first polymer clay was developed in the late 1930s by German doll maker Fifi Rehbinder who couldn't find supplies during WW2. She called her plastic “Fifi Mosaik” and used this for sculpting her doll heads.
Polymer clay is a synthetic modelling material, not an earth clay. It comes from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the third most common plastic polymer in the world. Thanks to its plasticity, polymer clay is ideal for moulding, sculpting and creating anything you can imagine. It starts out soft and malleable, and it becomes hard and durable after being cured for a few minutes. It is extremely durable if it has been cured to the manufacturers requirements. Modern clays are bendable and flexible, therefore having a longevity that other materials simply do not have.
